Every now and then I look down and the little computer in the instrument cluster says "calibration completed". What was it calibrating?
When towing, do I HAVE TO put the transmission in tow/haul mode? I finally got the Mustang running and got it on my new trailer for the first time. I towed it about five miles. I left the transmission in regular mode and it did fine, hell I wouldn't have known the car/trailer was back there if I didn't see it in the rear view mirror. It accelerated the same as it usually does. Am I not towing enough weight to need the tow/haul mode activated? I'm guessing trailer/car/gear weighs around 6000 pounds.
I'll be towing it around 600 miles round trip this weekend so just wondering if I need to put it in that mode no matter what.
You don't have to if you don't want to. It's just a nice little ECU / Trans re-mapping that makes towing crap a little easier on the tranny, and is optimized for performance. Hell, we 4R100 guys just leave it off all the time.
Thanks for the reply. I towed the car this weekend, 10 hours round trip, I tried the tow/haul mode a couple of times from a stop to check it out but really couldn't tell any difference. Truck pulled great either way.
Anyone know anything about the calibration completed thing?
the trany will downshift in tow haul mode and allow the engine to slow u down. This is on the 05 and newer SD trucks only. I even run in this mode empty sometimes just for the fun of it. It will save on brakes loaded or empty. But it is a must when loaded or in hills. Maybe thats why i can go way over 100000 miles and never need brakes. I don't think i have ever needed brake on my SD trucks and i have one with over 135000 miles with a lot of heavy towing.
