Brakes pulling to right.

Well, this has got my mechanic stymied.

The truck pulls to the right when the brakes are applied. Not a huge amount, but enough that one cannot let go of the steering wheel. And, its not because of the crown in the road.. I've tested for that on flat surfaces.

My trusty mechanic found a right side caliper that was sticking and replaced that.

The other caliper is fine, the flex lines are good and the left slides are lubricated and working well.

Everything else seems to work well, but it still pulls to the right.

Any ideas what to look at before we start throwing parts at it?

Thanks

A sticking caliper? I know you said you replaced it already but maybe got a bad one or a pinched hard line somewhere. Check the rear too, it could be back there.
P.S. Easy way to find the problem wheel is to shoot the rotor with a laser thermometer, the hot one is the problem one.

Braking

Might be possible that it's the left side that's the problem, not the right 'at the moment'. If the left side slides are hanging, the left caliper isn't pressing the same as the right due to the caliper pistons not pressing fully, or even the brake hose having some type of restriction. I remember reading somewhere recently someone was having issues and found the brakeline/hose going to one caliper being almost fully closed off by rust.

Well, this is still a problem...

We have replaced the right caliper, the pads and rotors are fine, both slides are free and moving well, the rear brakes are fine...

We still get a mild pull to the right when braking. Its not a sharp pull, but you would not want to be beside me if I applied brakes and not hanging onto steering wheel.

Any ideas and what else might be causing this? I've exhausted the ideas of two local mechanics....

Did you try rotating your tires to see if the symptoms are still there. Sounds funny, but tires are not all created equal. Also, check ball joints for excessive wear.

Good Luck.

Being radials, they should only be rotated from front to rear right? You might be experiencing "radial runout".......pretty common, you can try switching to a different brand/set of tires temporarily to see if this is the case.

Well, problem solved..

As indicated above it was the left caliper hanging. One mechanic swore he cleaned and re-lubed the slides, but the problem persisted.

We replaced the caliper and problem solved.

Thanks to all for your input
