My pick up tube inside the tank has come un-soldered at the connector fitting at the top of the tank. Any ideas for a repair? Preferably a fire free solution!
I'm a fan of JB weld, but I would be hesitant to use it here. I would think liquid gas, ethanol, and hydrocarbon vapors would attack it 24/7, and it would leave you walkin at some point.
Yup! That's what I think. So unless someone has had success long term with JB weld, I think I'll try something else. Like drilling a hole and installing a new pick up tube.
Well, aside from soldering (which isn't fire free) or replacing the tank it was the best thing I could think of. I repaired my John Deere tank that was leaking at least 3 years ago with it and it's still holding, but who knows??
I did a quick search on the web and epoxy should work! Their are several epoxy sealers and puttys available. I just gotta find the right one. I'll keep you posted! Thanks for the suggestions!
Yup, now all I gotta do is figure out how to get my hand into the sending unit opening to smear the stuff on the tube and jam it into the fitting! No problem! I'll just get small!
i've used jb to repair cracks in between freeze plugs in a dirt track car i had and it never leaked and i beat the hades out of it and reringed it twice . so yep the stuff works if you do what the directions say !!!!!!!! and yes peeps still repair / weld on tanks . both radiator shops here do it . but ellenburgs has gotten kinda price goofy since the old man isn't there anymore , and a-z is only about a mile from me . i've had my tank in their 3 times for patching etc. now . one of thses day's i'l replace it maybe ........................... oh i stuffed the chevelle in question { yes i used gms for the dirt cars as they were cheap compared to my fords !!!!!!!!!} into the concrete wall at macon with a little help running about 70 nose first . didnt even chip the jb , but it broke the starter off and the water pump got broken off too ................
