Has anyone replaced the Exhaust back pressure seal on the pedestal? I replaced CAC boots a while back and noticed a small oil leak, appeared to be at EBP piston rod on pedestal. Have had a small drip from starter area for @ 1 yr. I use the EBPV as a brake when towing and would like to keep it. I have the TSB on this procedure, and read on guzzles site about using a brake hone.
I have not done a lot of wrenching, but am not afraid to try. I can buy a brake hone from NAPA but not sure on size or how to use. Do I use any lube? How do I know how long to apply hone? Any suggestions on where to find spring scale tester for adjusting the preload of EBP piston rod? Any other suggestions for a green shadetree guy?
Most of us just gut the thing. Using the EBPV as a trans brake on a stock trans is pretty hard on it, if you're towing heavy. Lighter loads probably won't hurt it too much, but I wouldn't bother. More trouble than it's worth.
If you enjoy using it I would keep it. I use mine and really like it. All you will need is a rebuild kit and a small brake hone if you have access to one. It doesn't take much at all, just a few passes. Here is a link for the IH Kit.
