Had my 07 in the shop for2weeks 2 get all warranty work done before it ran out. They pulled the cab bedplate gasket, manifold gaskets, rear main seal, stc fitting, orings on crank and cam sensor,They did a good job and replaced some other things that didn't need to be replaced but did it anyway. They also replaced Air to Air boot that i wanted replaced Silicone boot on turbo.Well tech didn't tighten the clamp tight enough blew it off and put a nice dent in the hood.he says there is something wrong with the turbo and that he has never seen this before.Dent in the hood that is.I asked him if it was his first day on the job, well he didn't like that to much. They say they are going to fix the hood.Has this happen to anybody else here??I mean the dent.Thanx
To answer your question, while it hasn't happened to me I've heard of it happening before through posts on this site. Why don't you take the opportunity to replace your hood with a nice cowl induction hood? At least that's the excuse I'd use!
turbo over boost will cause that to happen. If you would have said that to me You would be getting that done customer pay for lack of maintance causing turbo to coke up.
then we would know whos first day it is.
The truck only has 12000miles on it how could it be lack of maintance.I just bought it,so no i wouldn't be paying for it.I ment by first day ha ha never seeing the pipe blow off and put a dent in thess hood.My buddys a mechanic in Fort McMurray Alberta and he sees about 3 new hoods a month do to this problem. Why do the turbos over boost??No waste gate to prevent this.Thanx

Should have taken it to your buddy, then you could tell him how incompetent he is.
Heard of plenty of dents in the hood, one guy made a bracket (paranoid) to stop it if ever happened. Over boost and boom goes the hood when the pipe comes off. Now if your tech forgot to tighten the boot, I know where the pipe would land after seeing a big dent in my hood. If you find a good technician, keep him happy....
I don't blame somebody for making a bracket. Its one of those things you must do before warranty runs out so you don't have to replace hood every couple of years.no comment on last post she might here me!!!

Well....... these turbos do not need a waste gate. They have "inlet guide vanes" that control the boost. You also have a boost gauge that will tell you if the vanes stick. Since you had high pressure oil issues, you (IMO) had injector issues that caused some poor combustion and coked your turbo. An easy way to "see this coming" (besides your boost gauge) is to pull your EGR valve and see how bad the carbon plugging is. Also, if you are idling a lot, then you are putting your turbo at risk. How many engine hours do you have in that 12,000 miles (which is very low for a 2 year old truck).
