so i found the clamp that holds my distributer on, and loosend it. but when i tried to move it it wouldnt budge! i have some wd40 on it lettin it sit for about 24hrs before i try again. but is there anything else i can to to "un stick it?"
Not really, what you have is a case of aluminum against cast iron corrosion locking the dizzy to the block. Leave that stuff soak as long as you can. Might even want to try pouring some 10W motor oil around the base of it.
The last one I had that was like that required beating it out from the bottom.
I've used a pair channel locks before and had good results. I let it soak for a while with PB Blaster on it then used the channel locks to twist it around and brake it loose.
You may be able to heat it with a torch with the torch down really low. You don't want to get anything really hot. Just enough to cause a little bit of expansion(to much localized heating could cause a crack).
I was hoping I wouldn't see WD-40 mentioned in this thread. WD-40 isn't a penetrating oil, it's a lubricant. It won't free the distributor. Try PB Blaster or Kroil.
so im going to get some PB blaster tomarow and i will let it penetrate for a day or so then put a bit more on, before i try to put a strap wrench around it and twist it loose. Thanks for everyones help!

I been using the 50/50 mix of acetone, and ATF with VERY good results recently. I got a red 20 oz oil can from Harbor freight (thumb leaver) and mixed it up. It is just amazing after 32 years of rust, and 15 or 20 minutes of soaking and a good grunt on it, it just breaks loose.
I had one bolt that would not come loose, but I ran out of time, so the next day it was little more than finger tight, I was amazed!
I am going to give my PB blaster to my brother so he stops trying to use WD40.
"Tees77F150" I'm intrigued!! Does it matter what type of ATF you use? I've never heard of this, and of course I've got more than enough places to utilize anything better than the off the shelf stuff!
I have had this happen before. To get mine out, I soaked it in PB blaster, then took my air compressor temporarily off of its bracket. Then I took a Crow bar and pried between the air compressor bracket and the base of the distributor. The distributor was ruined in the process, but at least it was out. You could probably get it out though with out ruining the distributor, you would just need to be careful.
My dist. in my 302 is stuck as well. I tried PB Blaster, pry bars and some carefull heat from the torch. Truck runs pretty good, so I didn't force it, but I know it's going to have to come loose someday. Good thread. Thanks.
so i got it loose today, used a whole can of PB over the last day and about an hour ago i just tryed turning is and it was loose enough to move! thanks!
Hey guys, try Fluid Film for this type of application. I'll tell you what the difference is between Fluid Film and the competition: No solvents. So when you spray down a stuck part Fluid Film does not evaporate. It stays super slick and continues to migrate down until it eventually frees just about anything. We'll bet a can on it.
If you haven't tried it and live in the US, just PM me for a sample can. We even pay for shipping. That's how confident we are that once you try the product you'll be hooked.
