I have ran Delo400 or Shell Rotella T Syn. for quite some time. I'm not liking the new "LE" version of the Delo, and I'm thinking of changing up. I just seen WM is carrying 5w-40 Mobil1 now, but I've been wanting to try the Valvoline oils for awhile. Any thoughts on the two?
The Rotella T actually has some moly anti-friction additive in it, and I believe that neither the Mobil nor Valvoline products have it. You would be better off sticking with the Rotella T in my opinion. Reduced friction is available with the Rotella in comparison to those three options, and that will translate into lower tempeatures, higher transmission of power, and lower fuel consumption. Even if those gains are so small you can't measure them, I have definitely seen the Rotela perform better on friction testing machines., and the benefits will be there even if you can't measure them.
My only problem with the Rotella T is I wish it came in 15-40 syn. It gets hot where I'm at, and in the summer my endine seems too be louder with the 5-40 syn as compared with the Delo 15-40. Could be my imagination I was reading about the test done on oils someone posted awhile back and the Valvoline stuff came out on top IIRC.
Syn will handle heat better, so running it in hot climates makes sense. It gets over 110 here in the summer, and as cold as the single digits in the winter -- I run it year-round. Both oils are like 40w when warmed up, so there should be no difference at that point.
Yeah Joe, I agree with you, it just seems that my motor is louder with the syn Rotella in the summer. I've ran Amsoil, Delo, Delvac, and syn Rotella. Just thought about trying something different. Wish there was some Schaffer's close......

Jeff... we have both a Division Manager and a Sales Rep living right there in Yuba City. Let me call them for you and see if either one's in a position to help you out. I'll get back with you sometime tomorrow. Better yet, PM me your phone number and I'll catch up with you that way.

Hey Pete, if you don't mind, would you please PM the info too?
Jeff youll like the schaeffers. i just switched to 9000 and before i changed the oil my dc% was in the 9.3-9.7 range and the truck would idle a little rough (with valvoline PB extreme synthetic $30/gal) but after switching the idle is up to 11.3-11.7 and the rough idle is gone. i dont know if thats because the valvoline was older and ready to be changed or what but im gonna run the schaeffers to the same interval to see what the haps on the craps is!!!
on another note getting the 2 cases of 6 gallons made the cost go down to about 20 bucks a gallon. im gonna order a 30 gallon barrel next and split it with my f-i-l.......
