Dana 60 Closed Knuckle??

Been looking around for a Dana 60 to do a SAS and came across one with closed knuckles and it sounds reasonable. Question is any disadvantages over an open knuckle axle and I would imagine it is from an older model, so what are the chances that it will fit my 95 without too many modificatons?

Thanks, in advance.

TC

Walk away from that axle. This axle has identical dimensions to any front axle of this era, so it will fit, but because of its low pinion design, along with the closed knuckles and small u-joints, this axle is a very weak axle. This is probably less desirable than a high pinion dana 44. Matter of fact, I would prefer a high pinion Dana 44 over this axle.

We are running one just cause it came with the truck...
Takes forever to turn the thing around...
It so far has held up to the new 390 + and lots of sand-rocks etc...
but
the axle was from a military set up...dont know if that make it different

TC, walk away from this axle.

It runs larger and better U-joints that the HP Dana 44.
In fact I'd run this axle over a HP 44, but only because I like to modify stuff and view changing the drum brakes to disk as a challenge.

Some info on this axle -> Dana 44 Solid Front Axle: Reverse Spiral and Standard Housing info..

Guys,
Thanks for the replies and information. I am in no hurry so I will keep looking. I have never had any problems with the TTB, in any of the F150s Broncos or another f250 that I had, just like the idea of the solid front.

Thanks,
TC

replacing front dana 60

would it be possible to just drop my front dana 60 closed knuckle and put in a dana 44 from the same year? I want to get rid of this closed knuckle so bad. my truck has 38s on it now but i am dumping those and going with 35s. I want to do the disc brakes on the front and rear but I cant do that with the stupid closed knuckle. I dont mob around or drive tough so would a 44 hook right up?
