OT because it's about the cummins : P my sister doesn't even bother posting on her dodge forum anymore, she just asks me to ask here because yall are THAT good
so- lady red's latest trick is to think long and hard about starting up until you step on the accel. she cranks but it sounds weak like she's about to die. no other symptoms; pretty confident it's not batteries since those are new as of june. she just did sea foam about a month ago, but we were wondering if maybe there isn't a clog in the fuel lines somewhere?
that truck desperately needs an oil change...not sure if there is any correlation but it's about the only other thing i can think of right now
sometimes a starter will still test good because it's spinning, but when it has a load on it (like a 18.5:1 compression diesel engine) it just won't do it.
there could be worn bearings, brushes, etc in the starter causing the armature not to get the correct voltage and amps to turn the engine over efficiently. also could be corrosion on the connectors on the starter/ corroded ground if grounded to the block via a wire
Oh, we might be having a NC get together after new years sometime... probably up near Raleigh. You should try to make it!
sweet...give me enough heads up to save up a little fuel money and i will def try!
and now i need to rant about the dodge some more...WHY can't the oil filter be somewhere that makes sense like my truck?? and the bolt couldn't be a normal bolt that i have wrenches for. oh no, has to be inverted and of course i ain't got that tool. even the fuel filter is more complicated!! ahhh! too much pressure...it's my sister's dd, so i can't mess up!
anyhow, that makes me feel better and the bf says he can loan me the tool for the oil pan bolt, so i guess a few more days won't kill red
for those interested: it was the starter. how ironic is that that both our trucks quit starting at nearly the same time with the same issue?? we park em side by side in the driveway, they must conspire at night!! lmao
