Long story short, my dear wife's cancer is back . This time it's in her shoulder, spot on a rib and a vertebrae, and lungs. This is the third time, started in 1995. Her doctor is optimistic, says it's curable. Her spirits are up but she needs all the help she can get
Thanks all. Bill
I am sorry that this is happening to your wife and you.
As you may know, second opinions can be life savers. Recently, I had to take a family member to Boston, Dana Farber-ranked 3rd or 4th in the nation, Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY is probably 2nd, MD Anderson in Houston is ranked #1 by most and has been since the '70's. If we had stayed local, she would not have the chance of survival that she currently has. She was Stage 3B. The higher the grade the more important it is to have access to doctors with the latest training and access to the data bases from the above heavy hitters as well as Europe, especially in oncology.
Additionally, MD Anderson extended my mom's life by 31 years and she was given a one in 100,000 chance of living 2 years at a reasonably well ranked hospital. She waited too long for the second opinion 12 years ago when it returned. So, as you know, time is of the essence.
Prayers, peace and blessings to your wife and you. It is tough going through this only once, few have to endure it three times.
PM me if you would like to talk about the differences that we found between the hospitals and oncologists.
Mary went to work for the oncologist, shortly after she was diagnosed the first time, since then she has acquired her oncology certification. Cleveland clinic is whom she works for now. She is now on short term medical leave and will be retired soon.
I believe in prayers an the Lord hears them all.
not sure what my Mom had, I just know it was the state 3 or 4 cancer that if left alone would kill very quickly, she survived it and fought it, so prayers are inbound...time to kick cancer and show who is boss...
You're on my prayer list now too. We are also dealing with this. My wife goes in for her first round of chemotherapy this Monday. Warmth, love, light, and positive thoughts.
