Mercon vs Mercon V
I sensed some confusion regarding this topic so I thought I would post this.
Mark is a retired Ford Tranny Engineer and I trust his advise.

You could get <vb_highlight>MERCON</vb_highlight> in dino, blend, or full synthetic. Now you can get <vb_highlight>MERCON</vb_highlight> V in dino, blend, or full synthetic.
The difference is in anti-shudder additives.
<vb_highlight>MERCON</vb_highlight> V is now compatible with ALL transmissions that used to use <vb_highlight>MERCON</vb_highlight>, including the E4OD.

they make the tranny fluids with different abrasive qualitys for certain applications and like he pointed out the shutter guards that they blend in, each company test these thing and some times it takes a while to get results from each tranny application, so u will see these products come out then shortly after they will say they replace other applications if that makes any sence to you
