1999 Ranger CMP Sensor Question

Hey guys need to ask a quick question. While replacing the transmission in my 1999 Ranger 3.0L I broke the electrical connections off the CMP Sensor. I looked in the haynes manual and it says I need to pull the sycronizer assy. just to replace the sensor on top it that true or can I just remove the two screws and remove the old sensor and replace it with a new one?

If you're just changing out the sensor, then it's two screws and your done. But make sure the synchro "vane" that spins around underneath isn't damaged.
