Rear Differential Problem?
Got a great deal (or so I thought lol) on a 1979 F-250 Highboy conversion. Got it with the rear driveshaft out and towed it home. Installed a new u-joint and u-bolts. One of the old u-bolts was snapped...and they looked new or newer. Test drove. Driving straight down the road, everything seemed good. When taking slow, sharp turns I get a nasty clunking and binding in the rear. Needless to say, test drive was short. Pulling back into the driveway (making a sharp turn), I got the same clunking/binding and then the rear u-joint snapped.
What are the first things I should check?
How do I determine the gear ratio on the rear?
I think its a Dana 60, but will try to confirm this soon. Very much will appreciate any comments or advice. Votumamor@gmail.com
