Brake time.....

Sorry to bring this subject up again since I'm sure it's been covered hundred's of times but my search function is being screwy.

I am in need of brakes and just wondering what everyone thinks is best for our beast. I know that Hawk pads are a favorite but is anyone running something else I can pick up locally and put on this week? Are ceramic pads the best?

Thanks for all your help and advice!

I put the heaviest duty NAPA pads on my truck. They work great and I bought them just down the street. I don't recall the price.

I am running the Hawks. I can say I am very impressed with them. Remember, the stock pads are not bad, so stock replacements will seem good when stockers fade. Probably the biggest thing is the fluid flush and bleed that should come with pad replacement which makes even crappy pads feel good, initially.

I have had real good luck with OEM superduty pads from the dealer. They cost about $60.00 per axle.

I flush my brake fluid every other year on both my our vehicles.
I have the EBC brake pads, right now. They did stop significant shorter when I first put them on. They seem to have lost heir effectiveness over time. I'm looking at the Hawk pads, or something else a bit more aggressive.

I went with Napa premium rotors and preloaded calipers. I have about 10K on them now and really like them.
The rotors were about $145 each and the preloaded calipers were about $70. If you just need pads, they run about $65-75 per axle.

I tow heavy several times a year hauling hay and give my brakes a good workout. So far the Napa brakes have been flawless.

Yep -- ceramics are NOISY. I have the Hawk LTS pads up front. These are very quiet, low dust, and stop VERY well. I need that now, you know.

Are the Hawk LTS rated for towing? I tow 12K sometimes and it can get hairy stopping my 5ver even with tandem axle 12" brakes.

Yes -- they have excellent fade resistance. Several guys have them that tow. Rich-WhiteBuffalo has them on his rig. He pulls his big 5'er everywhere.

EDIT: Oh, and they are "ferro-carbon" pads...

Thanks, Joe. I'll be looking into a set, for all around, in the future.

BTW Cris, If you order from here:
2001 Ford F-350 Hawk LTS Brake Pads

...shipping is free, and you should have them by the weekend if you get the order in today. I don't know what your time frame is, but if you can get 'em, they're worth it.

And get a hardware kit and some syn grease for brakes at your favorite parts store before you start (about $20 worth of stuff). I had to run back out for that when I started mine.
