Hi guys, I have researched this problem in the forums but mine seems to be different, that said on my 03 Expy when going to pass someone or merge into traffic there is a SHUDDER but only at that time. I have not felt this when going slow and turning the mileage is 128k the truck has had all the major services done to it, just curious if this a BIG problem.
It feels like the drive-train, thought it may be the LSD or the Torque converter. I only notice it when I step on the gas to downshift to pass or merge?
Just trying to help narrow down possibilities here... You could get a shudder from the torque convertor but only if it was locked up, or trying to lock up. Typically under heavy acceleration the TC is unlocked and you are not going to get any type of shudder out of it.
The LSD will not give you a shudder unless you are engaging the clutch packs, either because you are going around a corner under power or one of the wheels is starting to slip. Accelerating down a dry on ramp isn't likely to cause an LSD type shudder.
Just had all of the COP and plugs done 8k miles ago,as for the tranny I will have to check my file. My thoughts on the LSD were the same but thought the torque converter may be giving up the ghost just like tha A/C blower motor did, was working one day then nothing the next.
Just a little update....found out that it only does this in OD....take it out of OD and there is no shudder when stepping on the gas. Is it possible for the OD part of the trans to be the issue and will it need a complete rebuild???
Before going off the deep end and thinking you need a trans rebuild, how about just servicing it first? These transmissions are pretty sturdy, and unless it has been abused badly it should be a long way from needing a rebuild.
Thanks guys this will be my course of action in the beginning of the week, should I take it to a trans shop or the shop that I have the oil changed at? Also is the service for this fluid and filter?
I agree, find a reputable trans shop, have the fluid flushed and filter changed. I would also discuss the problem you are having with a trans expert. They are likely to have more insight than us.
THE 4R75 IS KNOW TO HAVE A LITTLE SHUTTER. I HAVE AN 07 F150 THAT HAD A MILD SHUTTER UNDER LIGHT TO MID ACCEL FORM DAY ONE. MOST TRANYS HAVE SOME WORSE THAN OTHERS. TRANS SHOULD BE SERVICES EVERY 30K. WE HAVE MANY CARS AND TRUCKS COME IN THE SHOP WITH SHUTTERS. WE JUST SERVICE THE TRANS AND MOST LEAVE JUST FINE.
