UPDATE....Just got back from the trans shop...OUCH...seems there was more wrong than I thought.....after an inspection the torque converter was the issue, then I had to have the tranny rebuilt due to contamination and burnt fluid.....so after removing $2415 from my heavy wallet they let me drive it out of the shop....and it drives a lot better.
WOW. THAT IS A LOT OF MONEY. YOU CAN GET A REMAN FORN FORD FOR $1800 WITH A 3YR/100K WARR. THEN LABOR TO PUT IT IN.
Even at $1800 you still have to figure labor to install it, also the labor they already had into it doing the trouble shooting, so he'd probably spend about that much anyway. Even still, I agree, OUCH ! Let's not forget to change that tranny fluid and filter regularly now.

Does that include a new torque convertor?
There is also a fair amount of labor to R&R, especially on a 4x4. Not exactly something you can do lying on the ground in the driveway. I suppose you could, but if it falls on you, you're dead.
I agree, keep an eye on the trans fluid. If caught early, this could have been much less expensive.
That was the complete price TC,TRANS,external cooler and L A B O R, the only thing that I have noticed is that the TC loves the 2k mark while driving around town? Also not as silky smooth as before, wife noticed that first and does the computer need to re-learn driving style?
