Changed the fuel filters in the 05 f350 I just bought and their was lots of rust around the drain screw tip and on the lower filter. Didn't have much on the top filter. Also took out the Power core air filter and replaced with Ford's. Oasis said this truck has had 3 egr coolers, last one replaced 2 months ago. Any suggestions on what I should do next?
do you have access to a pressure transducer? that is really what you need to find out what to fix for your concern. also you need to know what the ect/eot split is. more then 15 degrees and you have a failed oil cooler.
If you do have a PVT around Ill tell you how to hook it up and what to do. They do make one for a fluke but its like $300
PVT - pressure / vacuum transducer
you assume correct.
not something that everyone has just lieing around though. I do really need to buy one for my fluke.
you could basicly do all the diag for head gaskets at home with these tools
a fluke meter
a pv350 for the fluke
a cooling system pressure tester
a cooling system vacuum tester
egr cooler test plates (someting Im sure you can make youself)
a code reader that will let you read pid values or a set of gauges for ect/eot
going in to have a coolant flush and i'll see if I can get a reading from them. Also how can i tell if I have an updated FICM? I don't have a buzz but could it still be stock

OK, the origionale issue is rust in the lower fuel filter, I've seen this problem, It's the fuel pump housing rusting out. in 05 they were made out of tin to save money LOL they since upgraded them to stainless. replace the fuel pump.

Did you mean to say "tin plated" ? tin is around $7 a pound.
What I meant by tin is a cheap grade of metal that rusts like an old tin can. LOL
my experance has been different. I have alway found it to be from trash in the tank.
I do work on a lot of dirtwork and oil field stuff with steel tanks so that will play a large part in what I haev seen.
