I stumbled on to a van turbo today but I'm not sure if there were different versions like there are with the trucks. It's definitely a PSD, but I'm not sure if there are generations like with the trucks.
Truck generations for the turbo are:
OBS PSD
E99 PSD
99.5+ PSD
I'm assuming there is one as well for the vans, I just have no idea what it is, and what the differences are between them. Can someone enlighten me? I don't have access to the van 24/7, but the build date is 10/98. And yes, the HPOP was already gone...
Does the van have a different hpop as well or something or you just wanted to grab it for a spare. I have beentrying to get an obs psd engine for three months just because it only costs 100 dollars. What's the difference there also. What can I use on my superduty psd.

I have an Adrenaline HPOP but thought it might help someone else out as a core possibly. Can't hurt to have a cheap spare on the shelf!

$100??!!! NICE!!! The shortblocks are the same. The heads, HPOP, turbos and pretty much everything else is different though.

I know of that detail, but is that true for ALL vans? That's what I'm trying to figure out. If I can get this turbo, was there ever only 1 version of the van turbo...

Oh ok. Sorry wasn't reading the question properly.
To my knowledge there is only one van turbo, It is a turbo out of an E series. Some junk yards/pullaparts call many things a van. I found a listing for a van turbo here locally that turned out to be a F series cab and chassis with a van box on the back. Needless to say that it was just a regular old .84 turbo.
1.15 A/R will be stamped on the exhaust housing of a van turbo, and it will not have a wastegate.
It's definitely a van! I guess I'll be heading back down there today to try and get it off. Everything was coming loose easily enough UNTIL... I went to loosen the forward-most bolt that secures the turbo to the pedestal. 13mm deep well... CRACK. 13mm std depth socket... CRACK. 1/2" std. depth socket... CRACK. They're Craftsman so I went to Sears last night, replaced them, and bought a set of std. depth impact sockets for today's attempt. I think I'll take some PB Blaster with me this time.... Wish me luck!!
Yep, but decided to (eventually) get a 38r since I'll be moving back to CO at some point. Lag might not be bad at sea level, but when I'm in the mountains @ 9 or 10,000' elevations... yeah, no thanks. I put it up on PSN but will add it here when I get home. Ebay this weekend.
Build date on the van was 10/98 if that helps. I might still have access to the van, so there's a SLIM chance of getting the OEM pedestal if you'd need it. Not sure what that'd cost me to get though...
So I take it there IS and early 99 version and a late 99 version of the van turbo?

No kidding! I was in Denver this summer visiting my parents and the lag plus the smoke was astounding.
