I have a1993 F-350 with an automatic transmission, and recently it is giving me starting problems. If I push the shifter lever upwards when its in park it will engage the starter. Sometimes I have to push it real hard before it will turn over. Does anyone know what the cause of this would be?
If you actually lifting the whole steering wheel with the shifter, then you need to re-adjust the ignition switch on the column. When it slides down, the rod that pushes on it when you turn the key can't reach the final switch that engages the starter.
Had this happen on a '88, Fooled the crap outta some service guys. They came back after trying to move it, said it won't start. I went out, lifted on the steering wheel, and started it right up. Should have seen the look on their faces... lol
I don't know if I'm picking up the whole steering wheel. I'll be looking for that one.
My shifter isn't too loose. I just put the new switch on the side of the transmission where the cable from the shifter ends. I forget what they call it. It worked fine for a while, and now this starting problem is becoming a bother.
