I'm looking to replace my exhaust. Its starting to leak at the corner before the exit. I have a 1990 F350 7.3L IDI 4X4 standard cab. What are my options for replacing it from the "Y"? I would perfer not to dump a whole bunk of money into this. It has the original stock exhaust and I perfer to keep the sound level about the same (maybe a bit loadier). Maybe I should just let it fall off and then replace it. Your thought.
nothing sounds more junky, than an exhaust leak before the muffler.
if your Y is ok.(as ok,as a stock restricted Y can be) and you dont want to spend a lot, then just remove everything from the Y back, and buy a new short piece of pipe,a new muffler if you need one,and 90 degree elbow, and shoot it in front of the rear tire.
this will make it little bit louder due to being shorter, and exiting here,as well as be less restrictive since its shorter.
the guys with turbo's claim you dont even need a muffler.they like to straight pipe it.(i wouldn't do it personally.well, perhaps once,to hear it for myself.who needs tickets with everything already costing so much today lol)
You would be surprized at how well a turbo chops up the sound pulses.
A straight piped turbo diesel is louder than a stock muffler NA engine is, but nothing like a straight piped NA motor is.
straight pipe all the way!! i love it, sounds loud and mean and everyone looks at you, drive next to a lil rice burner car with its window down and let it roar! scares them everytime
Had a straight pipe 7.3 N/A last year, well acually the whole muffler and a big part of the exhaust fell off and WOW was it ever loud especially when deccellerating wow, makes an amazing sound, it's like a Jake brake on a semi truck!

Not that you need ALL of this system, but I did mine kind of like this myself with 3" stainless and a straight-thru oval stainless muffler from DynoMax. I like a system that is QUIET as possible, but still gives the economy benefit of a straight-thru 3" system.

I think I'm going to just replace the muffler and tail pipe. Souls like it will be too costlyto replace the whole system. I'm tring figure outif this is the original exhaust system. Did the OME have the sceen at the end of the tail pipe? If so, why. Was the OME an all welded system?
DynoMax's Y pipe unfortunately is still poorly designed like the stock one imho.
I agree about the DynoMax Y being junk. I do NOT understand whyinheck they didn't put forth the effort to make a decent one. That's why I didn't buy one and took the effort to locate a Banks Stinger Y pipe, which is about as good as you're going to get in exhaust flow without going to headers. And yes, I am talking about NON-TURBO systems.
