Does anybody ever catch any flak for driving in OBS pickup? I constantly hear remarks about how old my Stroker is and how I should man up and get a new pickup.
Almost everyone I know drives brand new chevy half-ton and think they are the cream of the crop. I had one guy ask me today why I didn't do the cash for clunkers program? WTH???
I used to drive old junkers for the most part. My first vehicle that I bought that needed full coverage was my 02 super duty that I bought 2 years ago. My 97 is a work truck, so, compared to what I used to drive, I am driving new stuff! I've been driving for 30 years.
Who cares what they say. Drive what you want. No, I don't get any s*!t for driving an older work truck. And if I did, wouldn't bother me in the least. Since I'm the one that bought it, it's mine to do with as I see fit. I plan to drive it till it's done. 260,000 miles and counting on the 97. Plan on a lot more than that.
my simple response is 273,000 miles of abuse and it is all origonal...i actually just replaced teh ORIGONAL starter a week ago. it still worked but was starting to crank slower then normal.
no matter where i go my truck is always turning heads-people around here towards cape cod love obs trucks, and for the most part we dont have any monthly payments!
but my wife payment a mon. is $1397.00 3yrs 0%
so even if i wanted a new truck whos gonna pay for it?
These guys with the newer trucks depend on the dealerships while we depend on ourselves to fix problems on our rigs. Which is rare to say the least. I have put very little into my truck besides add-ons for fun. The funny this is these guys are paying $300-$400 dollar a month truck payments too.
I also drive in older F150 that is somehow still going. It's over 20 years old and starting to show some pretty good rust. The engine has never been touched with 217 on the ticker. Got to love them old 300 I6's.

My '97 is the second newest vehicle I've ever owned, after the wife's '02 ride, which I was hesitant to agree to.
I really don't see the appeal of anything new, even the Fords I'm sad to say.
To me, new cars=idiot tax.
Of course, I just moved to the arctic tundra from SoCal. My non-car-culture family up here seems to think a car has reached the end of its service life because it went through a few winters. Literally, they think you have to get rid of a car because it is 3 years old. They also pay to have their oil changed (or at least are charged for it, who knows if it gets done or not) and some of them don't even pump their own fuel.
If your ride is safe and dependable, then appearance is a majorly distant second to me. I've only had my '97 for 6 months now, and I feel sorry for the guy that had to sell it because his wife didn't like the slop in the shifter lever (took me half an hour to fix that). I could easily have flipped it for twice what I paid for it. My only regret in the past few months is I couldn't bring my '86 F150 with me, but I left with my pop, who does nothing but grumble about how new it is .

Believe it or not I'm still in high school. I worked for my truck and paid for it all myself, didn't want my parents to help me because I wanted to do whatever I wanted to my truck and didn't want them to be able to take it away from me...plus it feels sooo much better that I bought it myself. My truck's a 97 7.3 powerstroke and It's pretty shiny, a lot of people at my school have fancier trucks than me because they just got them for free. My truck still turns a good amount of heads though.

I don't even have any rust on my truck!!!!!!
Here in my town, every body makes better comments and compliments about my OBS than my other newer cars. I feel really proud when I drive it. I love it.
My OBS is my favorite truck ever. I have an 05 too and it does what I bought it for very well. But the Superdutys aren't near the real truck the OBS is. I have an online acquaintance that has a gorgeous rig. A late build 97. I would sell the 05 in a second and pick it up if he ever sells it. Of course thee might be a little resistance on the home front.
My truck was very well taken care of by its original owner. I've tried to do well too.
The first time I stopped at the dealer to pick up parts several salesmen walked out and admired the truck. One commented that he always like the OBS look the best and that he liked to see one in great shape.
Since then I've had the occasional guy walk by and look at the truck for a bit with similar comments.
every customer that has driven my truck loves it, just yesterday one dropped of an 01 psd for a clutch master/slave cylinder replacement so they took my truck and wqanted to keep it.
I have 2 local boys (young men) who every time I see them they want to buy my truck, I just tell them when I hit 500,000 miles it is theirs.
