I think it is a 99 and not a 99.5 if that matters.
I have the 7 o ring kit on order with the Locktite 680.
Can I replace the HPOP and hose side of the fitting without taking the
HPOP out? Looks Tight!
Any special tools needed other than the filed down 9/16 special tool to remove the hoses?
How much oil is going to come out when the fittings are removed? Hand Towel stuffed in valley enough to keep it running down back of engine?
First time working on a diesel but plan on doing my own fixes.
I am also missing one of the clamps for the airbox/air cleaner. Anyone know where to get one?
Thanks in Advance

if you are talking about the air filter box that need to be fixed or i can let dirt get past the filter in to the motor, i have seen one that did this and is was burning more oil than diesel.

as far as the HPOP i have one clue but they will chime in sone.

hello, im new to the diesel stuff to, i had a o ring leaking on my hpop too, it was the oring thats behind the non removable plug undernieth the outlet fittings. well it was a big gong show for me because no one new about how it went back together but i managed, and for you, i think you should be able to get the fitting off when its in there because i did. you dont need any special tools to remove the lines, the black ring just needs to be pushed towards the pump itself, its a real pain in the *** but just keep working it and the lines should pop off, and for how much oil is gonna come out im not sure because i removed the pump itself and there was alot of oil but as long as you got some super clean and rags you should be fine. the fitting are in there pretty good. and some of my info could be wrong for your year becuase mine is a 2002 and it could be different but if my info helps good luck.

The two lines and fittings can be removed without removing the HPOP. Only a small amount of oil will leak out of the lines. Wrap the ends in a rag. Make sure you thoroughly clean the fittings and threads in the HPOP, absolutely no trace of oil, otherwise the locktite 680 will not hold. Make sure the check valve springs get put back in if you need to remove them to clean the threads in the HPOP. There is a small metal disk that should be attached to the end of each spring. Be careful because they can fall off.

Here is some good advice from Bob Riley at Dieselsite.com:

I think Bob's got it wrong where he says the threads are for holding power only.

I STILL believe that the Loctite does the actual the sealing, and the o-ring is there only as a left-over from the original design.

I think they added the Loctite only after the o-rings wouldn't cut the mustard in this substandard-designed pressure fitting.

I used it on the "non-serviceable" plug, which is the same kind of ORB fitting.

An extremely small machining difference may cause a significant difference in the connections performance. You may never have a leak.

It would be nice if you would keep us informed of your long-term experiences.

I used the wrong-grade Loctite, and the wrong-material o-ring last time I fixed mine.

I used the o-rings Bob supplied with the Adrenaline and no Loctite. Just to be clear.

i have a 01 7.3 and i believe mine's leaking in the same area. how can i confirm it's the ) ring(s) that are leaking, or if it's the hpop itself ? i'm new at this so the more detailed and explained the better for me. thank you for your help. what tools would be needed to get mine done ? same as the 99? or different. thanks.

Clean it up a little, get a flashlight & inspection mirror, and CAREFULLY look around for the leak with the truck running.
