I did a vacuum test on my truck last night, and I think it was pretty good. However the needle doesn't really hold steady at idle, it flickers a little bit, is this normal? You can see it towards the end of the video.
It looked pretty steady to me; I'd think a variation that small would have more to do with the needle than the actual vacuum reading. Maybe someone else has a different opinion.
Thanks guys. Yeah, it is a cheap gauge, it was $10 at Harbor Freight.
It runs really well, but sometimes has an uneven idle. I think it was my air fuel mixture. I had to richen it up a bit when I put the gauge on, haven't driven it since though.
Recoil, I did the same thing to my truck after battling for some time to find out why it didn't run well. Even with the vacuum/mixture dialed in, my truck will sometimes still have a funny lope occasionally at idle. With a stock truck that old it could be just cam wear or carbon buildup on a valve or just an old ignition module. Just run it wIDe Open!
