np 435

I rebuilt my np435 transmission in my 78 f150 4x4, it is very difficult to shift into second gear while rolling, i have not put hardly any miles on it since i rebuilt it , due not being finished with my frame off restoration, I still lack the body work portion, but I have driven it around the neighborhood and it is difficult to get it inot second while slowing down to make a turn, it seems to get better once the temps come up, I am hoping it will get better once i get the truck on the road and put some miles on it but just thought i would post and see if anybody had any ideas, the rest of the gears shift fine, except for first gear while rolling of course.

Is it difficult to shift into second from first gear (granny) or all gears? Could be a syncronizer not lining up quite right. Did you replace the nylon contact pads on the shift forks? I know both of my granny 4 speed trucks shift hard from first to second gear, this is because first is nonsyncronized. Is the clutch adjusted properly?
