I just replaced my IDM module after my truck died and wouldnt run and i replaced a blown fuse under the hood for the injector relay or somthing and it still will not run for more than a few seconds and sounds horrible like it is running on 2 cylinders. Does anyone have any ideas? I have a 2001 f250 4X4.
Tell us why you replaced the IDM. Knowing exactly which fuse was blown will be helpful also. Are any other fuses blown? Do you have to crank for a long time to get it to start, or does it start pretty quick then die? When was the last time the oil and fuel filter was changed. Is the engine oil full? Is the CEL on? Have you scanned for codes? When it does run, is there smoke coming out the tail pipe? If so, how much and what color is it?
Thanks for the welcome!
Well after it died driving to work the other day i had it towed to ford for some stupid reason and they wanted to replace the IDM first before anything else was done. I read about it online and say if it gets wet it can fail or internally fail and it has been raining alot here recently and i figured why not try it. The fuse in the #5 spot under the hood was blown it was a 10A. I change my oil every 3000 miles and the level is good. The fuel filter was changed about 5000miles ago. It doesnt really even run it like chuggs for a few seconds and after a few tries it wouldnt even do that and there is no smoke out of the tailpipe. I scanned for codes and i have p1316,p1670, and i think it was p0513..somthing about the manifold air heater? The check engine light was on when the truck died going to work but it does not run long enough to show up now. Thanks for the responses guys

Reason: added info
1316 and 1670 are IDM codes. Did you do the IDM swap yourself or have the dealer do it? Has the truck ran since the new IDM was installed? The 1670 indicates there's a communication error between the PCM and IDM. Have you checked the wiring to make sure the IDM got plugged in correctly? Is the old IDM still around?
This kind of sounds like the original problem never got fixed, and now the new IDM is causing more issues.
No the truck has not ran since i installed the new IDM lastnight. I still have to old one also. Im pretty sure i plugged it all back in right but who knows. The 1670 code didnt show up until after the new IDM was installed. Is there a reset for the idm?
Just clearing the codes should reset the IDM. If you shook the old IDM or held it upside down, was there any signs of water? Have you checked to make sure you didn't blow a fuse or tried swapping the IDM relay for something like the heater relay?
Maybe we should back up to exactly how the truck acted when it died the first time so we know what other things to check.
So i decided to start taking he valve covers off and found the harness inside the drivers side was unplugged and now the truck works fine. Thanks for the help guys!
yeah i know they are retards at ford... but i didnt buy the idm module from them i got it from some place in Florida. I think i might go there and complain and see where that gets me
