Wow! This chip ROCKS!!! I love it! I definately will need to get a locker... and buy stock in BF Goodrich, lol.
Stock, High Idle, 35hp Tow, 60 Econo, 100hp Performance, and 140hp Extreme
The high idle works well.
Not much of a power difference in 35hp Tow but better shift points.
Havn't really tried the 60 Econo yet.
100hp and 140hp are AWESOME! Even though I don't get the full benefit from them because of stock injectors and HPOP they still make my truck go a LOT faster! I'm burning of tires from a stand-still!!! Through 2nd, and chirping 3rd!!! WOW! Love this thing!
Sorry, I was too excited to get it in so I didn't take pictures of install...
I installed it on the side up front of the cubby towards the door on the side there.
It is really a pain to install it there actually. had to cut the foam under the dash to even get the drill in there to drill the hole, then i filed it bigger to make it fit, then i had to cut another dash piece to get the cord past it.
Nobody know it there. that is point. =)
They will be confused enough with the switch I put on the dash. haha.
overall, I'm happy with my PHP. WAY more power. But i have a couple things I don't like. It starts really rough sometimes and my 35 and 60 settings are really sludgy (slow pedal response from a stop). It's much better when pulling something heavy though. I wonder if they are tow tunes. Jim didn't indicate they were though but I'll ask when i have time too look into these two chip issues.
90% of the time i keep mine in 140 hp. It's not bad on smoke unless you want it too, same mileage as the other settings, and it starts the best on 140.
the 35 is a tow setting
and 60 is economy
High idle is for 1100 rpms
100 performance
and 140 extreem.
my 60 isn't sluggish at all though.
As for starting, the chip should have nothing to do with the truck.
Unless your saying it starts just fine on the stock setting.
=)
Then you know its the chip, and not something else.
Woulda been really easy if i had known my contacts were clean.
The box is behind the parking break. you can unbolt that and get to it.
but if you need to clean the connections, you take it out though the fenderwell.
Well. When you are told about how to install a chip, and you get ALL the details.
It seems really really really a big pain in the ***.
When you actually do it.
It IS a big pain in the *** when you spend an hour getting the unit out to find out the contacts are already cleaned up for you.
here is a picture of the back of the PCM though the Parking Break hole.
It was a beotch of a picture, cause my camera is so big and i have a big lens.
I'm glad i pulled mine either way. I found out it was from a junk yard, and not an original.
As well as the contacts being cleaned. I still used the supplied abrasive pad and took the oxidization of them to make sure the chip got the best contact.
I then poped it back in and plugged everything in.
It is a pain to get it in and out. I sprayed mine with fluid film due to the corrosion on the outside of the box, and i sprayed down the mounting plate that holds it in to keep it from rotting in the weather.
Fluid film is good stuff.
If you want some, let me know. It's all natural lubricant that is good on everything and very water resistant. more so then silicone.
Anyways. This is where you gotta put the chip in at, you stick it in there, then fish the wire though and up the panel.
