As for starting, the chip should have nothing to do with the truck.
Unless your saying it starts just fine on the stock setting.
=)
Then you know its the chip, and not something else.
It does start fine on stock setting most of the time. Then every once in a while it doesn't. Never starts good on 35 and 60 and almost everytime a good start on 140. I'm not saying it's the chip completely b/c I have not pulled it yet to see. But it never started wierd before the chip and injector upgrade. I'm not woried about it for now. When deer season is done, I'll have time to address the issue. I just drive it for now.
Sounds like something else is wrong from my thought.
Takes a few seconds to remove the chip. Just make sure to ground yoruself when you pull it. that carpet makes a lot of static.
I'd try and rule the chip out ASAP, just in case you have something stupid going on with injector harness. That way you dont get stranded.
Mine starts a bit rough every now and then, but thats mostly due to oil drain back I think. Injectors gotta be filled up again.
I just wish i could get rid of my white smoke on startup problem. =\

Yeah, I'm going to pull the chip when I get a chance. Another thought came to mind today driving around. I know my starter (4 years old) isn't as strong as it once was and it doesn't turn the motor like it probably should. i wonder if a worn out starter will affect the way the motor starts if it's not spinning fast enough. I taxed it hard after installing the injectors in order to get her runing again.
On cold starts prior to the new injectors my truck smoked so bad it was on the line of embarising if anyone was around! Now cold starts have almost no smoke. It's wierd yours still smoking.

It could be the starter... eventually they just slow down and then they just can't get the motor going. Check batteries for drain after sitting too.
Yeah it can all be done from inside the cab. I just did mine a few days ago and everything was done in the cab, even cleaning the terminals. Not a hard job at all.
I would still pull the PCM out of the truck to clean it. You CAN clean it from in the cab but it's not comfortable at all and an odd angle, and hard to see, and you can't even see one side of it to be sure it's clean.
You do need to open the hood to pull the PCM out to unbolt the harness and everything.
