today my truck started squeaking from under the hood. first thought was "its time for a new belt". i later found out (after doing some troubleshooting) that it wasnt the belt. it is coming from the power steering pulley. the pulley is wobbly and loose.
first question:
can i just replace the pulley, or do i need to replace the entire pump?
second, if i can just replace the pulley, where can i get one?
i already checked autozone and broncograveyard.com but so far i cannot find one for the 300 (just 302, 351)
Yours is earlier than mine but I think the pulley is like a press fit. It takes a specific type of tool to push it on and pull it off. I can't remember if it even has a nut holding on or not.
If your's is wobbleing around then either it is slipping off or has odd problem. Try and look and see if it looks aligned with the other pully's the belt runs on.
i believe the pulley is pressed on like said above. Its pressed onto input shaft of the ps pump. might want to check into the pump because if the shaft is bent for whatever reason its going to make the pulley wobble. take the belt off and trying moving the shaft up and down and side to side. if it moves alot you need a pump.
I could be wrong, but I just put a 302 PS pump and Pulley on my 200ci. I would think the pulley would be the same. Yes, it's a press fit and requires a PS pulley puller which includes the installation tool (a bolt and nut). Autozone sells them to you and then will buy it back for the same price when you return it. You might check diameter of the pulley so you get the same size when you find one.
