I have a 76 F100 that I need to replace the power steering pulley, the pulley wobbles, does any one knows the part number for the pulley and where can I get it, besides the junk yards, which I might have to do, and what other cars or trucks I can get it off from.
Have you actually tried the parts stores yet? Like napa, autozone, etc, you might be surprised, they're not like dealers who discontinue parts after a certain time. Also, more info might be needed, engine size for one, they might all be the same but not sure.
WOW!!!! no luck here on the pulley at my parts store, call the bone yards I guess, my parts store has just the pump for $51.
As far as what other vehicles, numberdummy might have that reference, I believe you have the long tube type, just get a good look at yours and hit the boneyards, I'm sure alot of different vehicles cars and trucks used it maybe with different bracketry, but same pump, might even be able to use a different pump as long as from simular engine style.
If the pulley is wobbling, the pump is most likely the problem, not the pulley. There isn't much that can go wrong with the pulley, it's just a piece of metal. About the only time someone really ever needs to actually buy a pulley is when they are trying to replace their power steering pump, and they put the pulley on backwards. It won't come back off that way, so they'll need a new one. In your case though, I don't see how the pulley could be the problem.
I agree with fmc400. If you don't have a power steering pulley puller, I strongly suggest you get one (or at least rent/borrow one from a parts store). It's about the only way to get the pulley off without damaging it. The kit that comes with the power steering pump *may* work but I've had lots of problems (with the associated cursing) with them over the years. I picked up a pulley puller set and haven't had anymore issues since then.
Actually my first thought was that the shaft was the one wobbling, but when I remove the pulley from the pump with the pulley puller that I rented, and installed the pulley in a new pump with the pulley installer, I rotate the pully by hand and you can see wobbling again, so I remove the pully again, and check the pulley by eye, and it seems that someone hit the pulley at the center and bent it a little bit, so I know is the pulley and not the pump.
The pulley it is then....and more than likely you'll have to get one from a Junk Yard. I'm sure the PO probably used a hammer to finish 'pressing' it on to the pump. Hopefully you'll find one this weekend and be done with it.
Quit messing around and just straighten your crooked old pulley, danggit. ;)
"it's a Ford!" ;)
Good luck finding a pulley with the same offset (inset?) as the one you've got.
BTDT and it took months to find one like mine (360FE, factory A/C, PS) I just
memorized the look of it from the side and found one on a big old Ford car.
Had to buy the whole pump too.
Cool to hear you're using a real pulley-puller. :)
Rented one then bought my own, my three jaw puller slightly bent the the lip
on my original pulley and so stopped right there and waited to "rent" a puller
from Auto Zone.
