6.0 Trans Cooler

Picked one up off ebay not too long ago and I'm going to start gathering up pieces and parts for the install. I can't remember offhand what size fittings and tranny line I need for this install though. Can someone please refresh my memory?!

I would normally do a search, but I don't have reliable internet right now and its taken me 3 tries to even post this!

Thanks!

Is the 5C3Z-7A095-CB the 31 or 26 row cooler?

LOL... You need a about a foot of 1/2" atf or power steering line, and about 5 feet or so of 3/8ths. The adapters you need to make are 3/8ths to 1/2" elbows. I made mine like this:

Click the pic to take you to pics of the rest of my install....

EDIT: Jim beat me. Sorry -- I was distracted by Family Guy.

BTS sells a kit for installing the 6.0 cooler that cleans up some of the hose routing and comes with everything you need.

I suppose. I made my adapters standing in the brass aisle at Lowes (HD also has this stuff), and I got my hose at AutoZoo. Two stops and I was done, or you can wait for shipping.

The only tricky part was how I routed the line from the radiator cooler to the OTA cooler. I just cut the line coming out of the radiator after it made the 90 degree bend and double-clamped the 3/8ths hose right to it after turning it in the connection 180 degrees. You can kind of see it in these pics -- if anyone needs better ones, let me know.

I did the same. Ive got a gift card from Lowes I havent used, so I just took that route. Jim, I might need to talk to you a little more about this when I get closer to doing this. I just need to get under there and get my bearings before I can fully comprehend the pics! Can I expect to make a huge mess and get ATF all over the place or is it controlable?

You might not have the radiator cooler. From when I did mine someone thought it was new in late 2000. You are basically just feeding it with a supply side and return to the tranny. You come down off the tranny cooler from 1/2 inch and have to convert to 3/8 inch line.

ok some one school me on the trans cooler. and why would we want to put a 6.0 trans cooler, rather then the stock one made for 7.3 ? how does it benefit the truck ?

The bigger cooler will help your tranny stay cooler under all conditions, most noticably while towing. That will help the tranny to last longer, assuming you do your maintenance.

Another option is to use PEX brand reducing couplers. The 90* bend is nice but 20k miles later mine are holding up just fine.
