Ford should have never discontinued the Excursion in the first place
The Excursion is a lot better than that "long-wheelbase" Expedition
The Excursion could have been improved in conjunction with the Super Duty with the 6.4 and the 6.7, the up and coming Boss engine, and the recent interior revisions
It could have been made as environmentally friendly as the Super Duty is being made
I think Ford will bring it back again sooner than later. I read in Road and Track or Motorweek that Chevy recently put a diesel engine (maybe Duramax) in the Suburban but had to put production on the back burner due to the threat of bankruptcy. I feel when they get back on their feet, they'll release the diesel version because they'll have no direct competition.

Exactly!
The Excursion killed the Suburban in sales simply because of the Diesel engine option. Ford better wake up and realize that they're about to lose their market share if they don't do something.
I owned an Expedition and now own an Excursion. To even try to compare the two is rediculious. They're two different machines in every aspect. I went from a 5.4litre gas to a 6litre diesel. 5 seats to 7, moderate trunk space to hauling 4x8' sheets of plywood flat, with ease. Just the other day I picked up 15 sheets of plywood and 40x 2x4's, tossed them in no problem. Doing that with my Expedition would have sucked. Sure I hauled 6000lb car trailers with my expedition, and it did well compared to my buddy's tahoe. Still the excursion is night and day compared to the expedition. If they come out with a new Excursion with a new and shiny diesel, it'll be the first NEW vehicle I ever purchase, and quite possibly the last...
When I purchased my 1st excursion in 01 I really wanted the Expy. But the Expy was $3k more than the Ex! So I went with the Ex. I liked it so much I traded it in on my 05 Ex.
