Question how hard is an engine swap?

ok Its a 68-69 f250 ranger and everythings there except an engine and transmission how hard would it be for someone that has done just about everything but an engine swap to install a carbed 300i6 and t18 or np435 into this truck? the cross members are there also. I can take my time. I REALLY would like an old project truck like this

You should be able to stuff it in a day, could take another couple days to get it running.

Depends on tools, place to work, methods used, experience. Little things take time--linkages, cooling, exhaust.

If you make a scale where changing a flat is "easy", and setting up a differential is "hard", it would be in the middle, imo. YMMV

as long as you have the mounts it shouldn't be bad. You could do the swap with an engine hoist and a basic set of hand tools

What engine and tranny were originally in the truck?
You might have to change out engine perches, radiator, and misc bracketry if the truck had a V8 in it. I6 radiator has inlet/outlets on opposite corners than V8 Radiator for example. If you know what stands you have and/or acquire what you need, you should be able to bolt them onto the frame with existing holes. If your truck had a V8, you'll want to get the throttle pedal cable bracketry for the 6, it's different. Tranmission crossmember can be relocated fairly easily if need be. A T18 or NP435 is very very heavy, do you have a tranny jack and a smooth floor to roll it on? If I remember right, the inner Zbar (part if clutch linkage) bushing bolt to the back drivers side of the engine block on a 300. I swapped a 300 out for a 302 and later a 390. I had an engine crane and an experienced friend.

The 300 used the same engine towers as the 390 towers you have in the truck now.

You'll want to find an I6 radiator and a smallblock Bellhousing. 240/300 I6 289/302/255/351W share the smallblock bellhousing. Probably best to get a bellhousing from a pickup so that you get proper ring gear diameter and starter.

Be aware that the 300 was used into the mid 90s and later models had some improved exhaust manifolds.

You'll also want the throttle cable bracketry for the 300 as the V8 pedal uses a solid rod linkage that is different.

It all depends on how much money you have. The more money you have the better the mechanic you can hire.
