'03 need info.

I have owned this truck for about 6 months. I have tried to find info on this forum before but decided I needed to learn more about this engine which I continue to do. I have just replaced the ICP sensor [because I had a P2285 code and a oil leak also replaced connector] that helped a lot,but I still have this one problem. When it is [cool not even cold] the engine feels like it is smothering out and a light blue smoke is pouring out of the tail pipe. If you kind of feather it and keep going it will kick in and throw you back in the seat [Note it is not skipping I think if it had a bad injector it would be missing pretty bad] If you stop and walk to the rear of the truck it smells like diesel not oil. I have just had the lasted Flash which helps it crank a lot better , although sometimes it will skip just for a second or two if it is real cold. I use syn. oil that everyone recommends on this forum I change the oil ever 3000 in hopes of fixing the problem and just changed the fuel filters [motorcraft] because it seems to be getting worse. I have been diesel mechanic for 35 years and worked on the Int. since it came out as a 6.9, but I can not seem to get a handle on this problem. Is there something that could block the turbo while still delivering the amount of fuel that I am demanding or is there something in the timing ??? I am lost!!!!

turnos will not normally effect idle. they really only come into play while boosting. if you remove the clamp off the back of the turbo and loosen the bolts at the bottom of the down pipe you can move it to look inside and see if the turbo has starting to leak (bad oil seal in turbo).
I have seen a few truck that will only show a miss when using the inhanced injector test on the idm this test removes the pcm compensation strat forcing an equal amount of fuel to each injector.
you can also try and disconnect the inputs (ebp, vgt, icp, maf) to the pcm and see if you are able to modify the concern
