i have a 94 full size bronco 4x4 and i want to add a 3rd row seat does anyone know what small suv or other vehicle would have a seat i could get out of a wrecking yard that would be able to be bolted in the rear cargo area of my bronco? im sure it has been done im just looking for someone that knows what will fit. thanks for any advise.
I didnt think there was that much room in that area of the truck for a third row. They would be wedged back there like the back seat in a Porche 911. Probably the best would be take some measurements and hit the wrecking yard. An old middle row passenger van seat may work, and if you are into real fabrication, an old school bus seat could be fitted in there easily.
A) No leg room. You'd almost have to sit cross legged. It's only like 3 feet from the back of the bench to the tailgate. If you got a seat in there, there's no dip in the floor (like in front of the bench) to put your feet. If you raised the seat up to give leg room, there'd be no head room.
B) You'd have to do quite a bit of work to add extra bracing to bolt the seat in to. It's mostly just sheet metal back there. If it isn't worked into the frame, that seat will rip right out in any accident. Definitely doable, but still.
I think A is going to be the biggest issue. You just won't have anywhere to put your legs at all. Your best bet may be to keep your eyes out for a Centurion. They're an aftermarket 4 door Bronco.
I hear what the guys are saying but I am almost certain there is (or was...geez I've been here forever) someone who frequented this forum who had done exactly what you are talking about with a third row Explorer seat. I could be completely wrong but you might run a search. Who knows, my memory isn't what it used to be.
I added two jump seats from an extended cab ranger in mine. I fabbed up plates to sandwich the rear floor behind the wheel wells on both sides. I also made plates to attach the seat belts to the wheel well. It made mine able to seat 7 (small seats but useable) and I can fold them up and lose almost no room in the back. When folded they are nearly flush with the wheel wells.
Yes, I swapped in myself in the driveway. I bought an 86 f250 diesel 4x4 donor and swapped the whole drive train. It is a beast and gets better mileage than the gasser ever did (17-18 mixed) with a c6 for now.
thanks for the info, i will do some more messuring and see what i can make work. oh and for leg room this is being done so kids can sit in back so that shouldnt be a big problem
i think kenpobuck has the right idea i would love more info though like what year did you get the seats from and what kind of fab did you need to do? any welding needed or just drilling and bolting? please more info would be greatly welcome.
I really like the fold up seat idea for the sides, and that setup would be easily had from any compact extended cab at a junk yard. You would be ablet o prop up slightly for a little leg room, and position just right for head clearance. A bronco seating seven, thats a neat deal.
But... I hope this is all done right with proper supports for the seats and seatbelts. I always do mods like this with the "what ifs" in mind, especially if there are going to be kids back there...
