Miles Per Tank?

How many miles are you getting to the tank? That is, before you are filling up. I have the 36 gal tank with the 5.4 and 3.73 gear. The dash is telling me 500+, just got the truck so I am curious what guys are actually getting.

I just went 574 miles on a tank. I put in 34 gallons after. So I got 16.9 mpg on that tank.

I have the same engine and gears as you have.

For my first two tanks, I filled up at around 500 miles and still had 6+ gallons in reserve. Hand calculated mpg is 16.3 with minimal freeway driving so far. Mine has the 3.55 gears and when fully broken in, I expect it will make it 600 miles on a 36 gal tankful if need be. I do cringe when I think how much it will cost to fill from empty if gas goes back to $4/gal again.

5.4, 3.73, 4x2, Supercrew 6.5' bed, 36gal tank, lots of aero-drag accessories (front end replacement, commercial topper, post-mount spotlight, etc.) Just filled up with 31.5gal, 480 miles. That's mixed highway, city, and emergency response. All highway, especially if I keep the speed south of 75mph, I can typically get 550-600 out of a tank. I'm very pleased, considering the load and the accessories, along with a fairly heavy right foot.

All of those numbers sound promising. The 36 gallons will hurt at time of payment though! Just went back to the 150 from my 6.0 250, so I am hoping all goes well.

I hear that argument frequently, and it doesn't make sense. Yeah, it costs more to fill the tank. You're still consuming the fuel at the same rate, so you'll simply go longer between fill-ups... plus, with the bigger tank, you can better target where you plan to fuel so you get the best prices.

I went from an '05 F350 6.0 to my 09 F150 and have been extremely happy. Granted the 150 doesn't pull a trailer quite as well (it's a solid tow vehicle... but the 350 would take whatever you could hitch up to it and keep coming back for more - assuming you didn't blow the head gaskets...) but the 150 is getting better fuel economy and I have less worries of $13K repairs (turbo, heads, head gaskets... 3 times in 85K on the 350).

I had a couple of priorities this day. I wanted to know about how accurate the gas gage was, what was the weight of the truck at ~ 1/4 tank of fuel and the mpg at ~ 1300 accumulate miles. Truck is an 09 4.6 SCab 3.55 regular w/6.5 bed and 36 gal. tank. So I made a run to the county dump and used the scale information to get the calculation. From the dump, I went a few miles to gas up. At 6lb/gal. of gas, this distance is irrelevant to a change in weight.

The gage reported just below 1/4 and the fill up took 28.8. Fairly accurate representation at this level. Trip meter read 495.4 miles.

The truck at 1/4 of a tank of gas plus my FA weighed 5,600. To reach max weight, I could load 1,400 Lbs of cargo to stay withing specifications. From what I've read, it could easily handle more. Take another 175 lbs off that if the tank is full (~ 6Lb/Gal)

With a combination of driving styles including turnpike travel at ~70 mph(~100 miles) and back roads both hilly, curves and stopping at intersections every couple of miles for 18 mile round trips, I got 17.2 mpg. Truck stated 18.2(over all 1,300 miles) which is about the offset others report between calculated and truck's computer.
