Escape - offroad

Anybody had their Escape in the mud? or any kind of offroading. I just put some rought tires on mine and had to test it out. (05 4x4 V6) The first time I mashed the pedal in the mud the 4x4 light started blinking, the abs light came on and only the front wheels would pull. Drove it around for about 3 or 4 min with only the front wheels pulling. Drove it back to the shop and turned it off for about 10 min. Started back and all the 4x4 and abs light were off. Hit the field again and it worked perfect with both a front and back pulling. Kinda wierd because I know the light comes on when it overheats, but i was just pulled in the field the first time not nearly enough time for it overheat.

Just keep in mind that the Escape is a front wheel drive CAR with a second driven wheel when needed.

It is NOT a 4x4 truck.

Remember that and you will be fine.

Actually that's when "not" needed!

The nice thing about the ford auto's I've used, including the '02 escape is you can put it in second and it will take off in second. This is useful when you are in slippery conditions and want to take off from a stop.

I'd give up some economy and gain some weight for having a 4 low range, but for what it is, it does well and is comfy. It's no Bronco lifted with lockers and a snorkel though.

That second gear start got me up numerous boat ramps with my FWD '02.
