I found and purchased a 1941 Ford 9n tractor, that was pretending to be an 8n... Serial number says it is a 9n though, built early on in spring 1941, and it is in perfect condition. This will give the time to restore my 641 properly, I can cut the grass again. I had bought a Home Depot brand ride on mower, but after a week of coping with my overgrown grass, it died, so I took it back this morning, got a refund and then went out to look at a tractor I recalled seeing locally. The guy was just about to raise the price, as he had some work done on it, (a new water pump) but he let the price stay.. He had a blade as well, so that came home on the hitch.. The tractor works real good, with no overheating, or excessive smoking - there is a little smoking but all the flat top engines I have ever seen have smoked some.. (this is where you guys tell me I am in for trouble because no flat tops smoke ) It is painted like an 8n, so I may just leave it like that - the paint is in good condition and looks fine.. Having some red on it makes it look less plain than the factory dark grey.. all over! So, I now have 2 old Ford tractors, so I am officially a collector..
Now we have 7 Fords at home... (2 trucks, 2 Lincolns, a Mercury and the tractors....!!!)

That is one heck of a shipping bill, I hope the tractor was worth that much. OR, do they want anymore, I will deliver it myself for that price. OR I have a nice 641 to sell to someone in Alaska.
Anyhow, about my 9N - I rooted about in various places and web sites, and now know that my 9N is not a 1941, but a 1939, Is this a good find or what?? is the '39 worth more I wonder.. Aw never mind, I was probably robbed...

The lines, inside the transmission, that take pressurized oil from the pump, to the hydraulic system, have a leak, causing the hydraulic oil to enter the transmission, thus causing the mixed oil to fountain out of the top of the transmission, through the plate's gasket. The Transmission needs to be removed, a fun job involving separating the tractor into many sections, then the offending pipes need to be either brazed, or replaced. Then I will have operating hydraulics - the pump that I first thought was ruined, is in good condition. As the beast will be in pieces, I will change the clutch. Then, I will get it painted. My attempts at painting are to be pitied.

I am saving for a barn. I have no clue when I will be able to afford it, with all the rest of the imperative repairs and purchases in line before it.. I am aiming to get me a nice steel building so the insects will not eat the thing.
