block drain
Anyone know were the block drain plug is located on a 7.3 I want to install a tank heater?

There are two........one on each side of the block in the center just above pan line....just 1/4"npt

Thanks for that but thats not going to work Ib need 1/2 in pipe thread hole in the low point in the block according to the instuctions?

They are in the low point of the block, it drains all the coolant out. Don't know what you are going to do about needing a 1/2" hole.

Thats what the instructions is the best place to hook into the engine next is I have to make something to run off lower rad hose.

IIRC there is a decent size plug in the oil cooler end casting. The cooler is the piece your oil filter screws on. Maybe someone with one laying around can confirm.
Why dont you use heater hoses off the engine for your tank heater?

There is actually a plug in the rear oil cooler header that International uses for a block heater.
Can be seen in this picture.
And if I remember right it is a 1/2" pipe thread.

That's the plug I was talking about. Didn't have a pic though. I know 2000 excursion stroke has the heater here (coolers are similiar).

I should remember that plug when the 83 thru 85 guys are worried about the block cracking.
That would be an excellent place for them to install a block heater.
Need to find out what the International block heater number is that goes in there.

That looks like that will work the other end of this heater splices into the heater hose. I had one years ago that just spliced into the heater line that worked very well. Thanks guys. Frank
