Ok i have put back in the truck the 302 that came out of it, it is freshly rebuilt from the machine shop. I have fule and i have fire, it is in time but it wont start it just turns over pulled the plugs they look good i do have fule presure i can not figure this out.
hummmm well lets see try pouring a little gas in the throttle body and see if it will start up if it does then you arent getting fuel to your cylinders your injectors are probably clogged if it doesnt you have bigger problems and i am clueless from there i hope this helps
Id check to be sure ALL your grounds are good, even the chassis grounds that you removed. It may just be a simple ground that is not sufficient. That in turn may not be allowing the signal to get to the injectors, or not a strong enough spark at the plug. Bad grounds kill Fords.
If this is a new engine and you've never run it before, how do you know it's in time? Did you install the distributor correctly? Is it 180 out? Sometimes if you don't know where to set the distributor you have to move it around while it's cranking and it will catch. Then you set the timing to what it should be and you're good to go.
To set timing make sure your on compression stroke, set #1 cylinder jus btdc, an then put your dizzy in with rotor pointing to where number one would be if the cap were on it, then go from there. To make sure your on the compressino stroke, take a piece of toilet paper, stuff it in the #1 sparky plug hole an turn engine over by hand, when the paper pops out its on compression stroke. Good Luck.
i agree with sparky shaft.....when i put mine together i had the same problem....so i took the distributor back out and redid it....turned out i had it 180 out....i iether took the #2 plug out by mistake and set the time to it or i didnt have it on its sompression stroke....so make sure u are on the right stroke,#1 spark plug hole and that u point the rotor to number 1 on the cap.....which is basically pointing straight back towards the firewall......well on a 351 anyway
I timed it dot to dot and number 1 at tdc droped the dizzy in with the pointer strait back ran the wire to the number 1 and went counter clock wise with the timing order according to ford racing it is not the HO firing order it is the other 289/302 firing order. i dont know tell me if i am wrong
Still without doin like I said your not exactly sure if you are on the compression stroke, you can line that thing up all day long but if your not on the compression stroke or not for sure, it wont work, its an honest mistake, Ive done it a time or 2 myself. 15426378 is 302 firing order. Im sure you know that jus makin sure.
