changing the steering wheel
changing the steering wheel
Hey Guys I want to try to change the steering wheel in my 01 F150 XLT, and just wanted to find out if it is hard to do? I was thinking of going to the local pick a part to try to find one...anyway what do you guys think, and do you know of anywhere I can find a guide to help me..Thanks in advance!
Disconct the battery
After that there will be 2 plastic covers on the back side of the steering wheel about the size of a quarter. pull those and unbolt the air bag. The air back should come right out with a wire attached, just disconect it. Then disconect the cruise control from the steering wheel
After all the electronics are taken off, you will need to take the nut off that is in the center of the steering wheel. After thats off you will need a pully puller or some device that you can apply a good deal of outward force on the steering wheel and push in on the center bolt all at one time. After getting good tension on it, you can pop it with a dead blow hammer or something and usually the steering wheel will pop free.
Putting the new on on is just reverse order and you can use the steering wheel nut to push the wheel all the way on as you tighten it.
I know this is kinda veg description but it shoud explain itself as your going through the actuall process.
Good luck
