Pulling steering wheel

I cant seem to find a wheel puller small enough to do the job.

My HF puller is to big and I borrowed pullers from two friends and those are to big as well.

Where are you guys getting your puller?

just pull on the steering wheel and have someone hit the nut with a hammer.

I have a Harmonic balancer puller like the one in the link below; it has worked on all the steering wheels I have pulled off over the years. I have had it for so long though that I cannot recall the brand of the one I have.

I have one that looks almost identical to the one Becky is a 66 posted a link to above. Mine is a craftsman brand I got it at sears acouple years ago. It worked for both my 64 and 71 steering wheels and my harmonic balancer.

I have a universal one like linked above and a Lisle steering wheel puller. Both work. The Lisle does fit the bolt spacing better, and made in USA.

I did a search and came to this thread. I am pulling my 66 f100 steering wheel and my puller set does not have the proper thread for this wheel. Anyone know what it is?

I believe it's either 5/16-24 or 3/8-24. Easy enough to make one. Get a small piece of solid bar,1'x1/2 or so about 3 1/2 inches long, whatever you can find, drill two holes in it the width of the holes in the wheel for the bolts to go into and then drill and tap a hole in between the first two for your jack bolt. Kind of plain and simple but who dosen't like simple these days.

Posting pic of puller similar to the links members posted, suggest using same/similar type pulley. 2 bolts screw into the treads in the steering wheel, the center bolt has a pointed shaft that sets into the steering shaft and one only need to turn the center bolt and the wheel comes right off. Strongly suggest one not use a pulley where arms are used go grasp the steering wheel from the back of the wheel while pressure is applied the the face?

Also an opportunity to make any repairs to the wheel if needed. Repair requires a mini rectangular file, and a container of A/B epoxy putty. Only mix enough to repair the crack keeping hands moist and remove any excess putty from wheel patterns; i.e., groves, etc., keeping in mind sanding excess epoxy putty is a major pain.

I am sure number dummy is correct on the nut holding the steering wheel down.

the 5/16 x 24 is the thread size for the steering wheel puller bolts
