I was looking at replacing the factory transmission cooler when I rebuild my transmission. I was just looking for input on what you guys have used with good results. I don't do a lot of heavy towing just a tractor and dual axle trailer that weigh about 8k lbs. I use this truck as a daily driver and want the trans to reach a operating temp when not towing.
yeah the true cool is a popular and recognized for doing a good job, i was going to get one too but a friend hooked me up with a trans cooler from a 6.0l. they're bigger than our stock ones and should do a little better. haven't installed mie yet since i am waiting on all the part for intercooler so i can install everything all at once.
Thanks guys, I found it (tru-cool 4739 max). Seems simple enough to install and not real pricey, it should handle more than I need for now but I definately need the bypass during the winter or the trans will take for ever to warm up.
Three out of four numbers isn't bad considering I installed it 3 years ago. Big improvement over the stock joke of a cooler. At first I just installed a Hayden cooler and when I heard about the true cool I added it also. Two coolers for those tuff pulls!
I am thinking about ordering one too Can i delete my older tranny cooler and put the tru cool max in its place will it help keep the tranny cool the bigget load i have pulled with the truck is 15000 lbs and thats not often

yes you can remove the old one and replace it with the true-cool. Or you can run it inline with another. But I would loose the stock (it may be plugged a little) and replace since your not pulling very often.
I love mine and the tranny temp difference tells me the tranny loves it too!
the mounting straps that come with the tru cool will not hold up if you do a lot of dirt road driving! I started welding 1/4" X1" strap "shaped to fit" from the top of the core support to the bottom and run the cooler horizontally, I haven't had one brake this way yet. the last truck I did this on drives 20,000 + miles a yer on dirt roads and no problems yet.
