EBPV shutoff, not delete

I'm wanting to shutoff my EBPV somehow, probably via a switch that I'd mount underneath the dash somewhere, but not really sure if it would hurt anything. I've read the threads about the EBPV delete and I want to leave mine in there so it can operate like normal while the autostart is letting it warm up in the cold Alaskan winters, but want to be able to flip a switch to shut if off (i.e. keep it from closing) while I'm driving. I'm sure it's possible, but will it cause me any issues? And does anyone have any ideas of what wires I'd need to splice into?

It plugs in on the pedestal, below the turbo the easiest way would be to splice the power wires with a switch wired in series for what you are wanting!

That's what I would do too, if that's all you want.
Just wire a switch in and be done.

Confused.. If it is cold it will automaticly close by the PCM. If you touch the brake peddle or the go peddle it deacitvates (OPENs). The PCM (closes) it for automatic cold start ups. Not while your driving. I don't think it will ever close while driving because your foot is either on the go peddle or brake peddle.

Mine will be closed while driving in cold weather unless I step on the go peddle hard. It will shut off provided the engine temps come up enough but if I am stop an go for 20 miles it can be always on. I hadn't noticed that the brakes turn it off but will check this winetr once it gets cold enough.

I like the switch idea. I have the pedistal delete ready to put in but do not have the time or garage to do so (maybe next winter). A simple switch I can install in most weather.

I had a buddy of mine following me down the interstate today shortly after startup and at steady throttle it cycles at about 1-2 seconds on 1-2 seconds off. He said he could hear it while he was behind me. Sounds like a freight train which is kind of cool sometimes as most people have no idea what's going on when you pass them and think your truck is gonna blow up or something.

Does anyone know which wire on the plug is the power wire? If not, I'll just quit being lazy and get out the multimeter one morning when it's cold and the sensor is activating the EBPV. Thanks for all the replies!

It does in fact close part way while driving. The amount all depends on how much throttle you're giving it and how warm the engine is. Once the engine warms up some it stops doing it, but if it cools off enough, it'll start cycling again.

A switch in series with it would work great. It will set a code if you have it disabled when you start the truck (probably wont light the SES light though) since it tests the EBPV after startup.

Not sure off the top of my head which is hot but it doesn't matter which one you splice to switch I'll see if I can find it for you though.

Gray with Red stripe I believe in the wiring diagram I have.

O i stand corrected. I guess it would come back on if it it cold. I didn't know that or never heard mine shut. I have an LED on mine. And once the trucks warms up i never see the light. But i must never cool down that much to see it.

You can switch any of the two wires. Switching any of the two wires will break the circuit. But it may toss up a code. Not sure if it will show CEL light though, Doubt it.

If you want to avoid a code, simply measure how many ohms the solinoid draws and then install a resister on an alternate circuit.
You would then need to use a different type of switch that is on/on type where the current either goes through the solinoid or through the resister.
The PCM would never know that the circuit is broken.

470 ohm seems to be the one. I have two here to put on mine -- one for the EBPV solenoid and one for the AIH heating element replacement. I suggest at least a 1W for the AIH resistor. The solenoid can probably use a 1/2W resistor if you can't get a 1W easily.

So if I wire one side of the on/on switch in series with the power wire going to the EBPV where do I wire the other side of the on/on switch wired with the resistor?

In series as well, inline with the output wire from the switch!
