ignition feels really wierd.

i cranked the motor too hot while trying to get my motor started, i replaced the solenoid on the fender well and put a new starter in it, i needed one anyway. well when i turn the key it warms the glowplugs then feels spongy, theres no resistance from pre ignition to ignition. and i had some smoke coming from the ignition wires coming to the fender solenoid. any ideas im stumped, checked fuses, wires and just dont know what is goin on with this truck anymore

You're positive your battery cables are good? Also make sure you're well grounded, smoking the solenoid sounds like something is grounding out or a lack of a proper ground on the negative side of things.

the cables arent in the best condition but its never given me problems, also whats with the key ignition feeling really loose? theres no play between pre ignition and the starting position. im gonna go through the wiring tomorrow, is there a specific fuse or relay it can be?

The problem with the key switch is probably either a bad ign/start switch (bolted to the steering column under the dash) or ign/start switch out of adjustment or the ign switch actuator (connects the key switch down the column to the ign/start switch) is bad.

The key pushes a little pot metal arm that in turn moves a rod that runs down to the electrical switch.

My guess is still the pot metal piece behind the key cylinder.
