I just replaced the entire clutch hydraulic system on my 92 F250, I got the whole pre-bled system from LMC truck. Everything went well but when test driving it I heard a pop under the dash. The plastic bushing that holds the master cyl. rod onto the pedal broke. I thought maybe I didn't install it correctly, so I carefully removed the used one from the old master cyl. I installed it and while testing it in my garage, the bushing broke again. When I installed the first one I did put some white grease on the pedal pin because I figured it was a moving part. Could this be making it slip off and break? Any idea whats causing this? Where I can get another bushing? Thanks Bob
the bushing/clip can be purchased at the dealer for less then 5 bucks for sure, prolly less. as for what your doing wrong i have no idea, when i changed the one on my ranger i installed it by putting the clip in the rod then snapping it on the pedal. worked for me.
The bellcrank on the actuating arm of the pedal shaft gets worn out and has a groove in it.
Then the plastic bushing snaps every time you install a new one. (do I need to tell you how I know this?)
You can buy a new one in a Dorman assortment of 5 for about $4 from any autoparts store. P/N #14041
I gave up and bought a top hat shaped brass bushing from the hardware store, epoxied it onto the pin and retained it with a washer and cotter pin.
Think I had to ream the eye of the M/C pushrod a bit, but it fits well.
