I have a 1990 F250 SC 4x4, 460, 5-speed. Can I install the instrument cluster from a 1990 F150? It has the tach and trip odometer that I currently lack, yet intensely desire. If it is possible, what additiona parts are required?
A 1990 F250 to 1990 F150 is a direct swap, plug and play. But do check the cluster lamps while you have it apart, not fun finding a bad bulb the hard way and have to take it back apart! You can also use one from a automatic(P R N D 2 1 indicator) truck, just swap out your block out cover from the old cluster into the new cluster.
It's the same way in New York state. More than 10 years old, they don't care what the odometer says. When filling out a title application you can write "EXEMPT" in the mileage field.
And yes, it's a direct swap. It's about a 20 minute job.
In florida you can choose EXEMPT for odo readings also. But to cover your rear end, just put a sticker on the door jam with the last old milage and date. Most DMV's will have that sticker.
What about taking a cluster from a 5 speed truck and using it in a auto truck. Do you just take the delete plate off the new cluster. and is the tach wire already wired into the harness. My truck is a 89 f250 with C6 351 without tach. and last week i passed on a cluster because it was from a 5 speed truck.

Yep, as long as the years are the same, it will plug and play as the tach wire is there. I know 87 to 89 are direct swap as I done that with my truck. Yes, just swap out the "delete plate" with the one from your cluster.
