I am having a no start issue right now on my 2004 F250 4X4 6.0 with 163K on it. I just put in a new after market EGR cooler about 6 mths ago. I use the oil and fuel filters from the manual, both oil and fuel filters get changed ever 7K. I was running 70 going on the interstate and hit my cruse to turn it off and the truck just lost power, as i pulled off to the side it quit and would not start back. I noticed it shuttered a little bit when I first got in and left the house, I had to accelerate to get past it. I had exaust smell in the cab at that point. My fuel mileage had dropped to around 11 MPG I was pulling a 18 ft bumper trailer with 3 4 wheelers on it and one in the bed. I had it towed back to my shop. I think I have an HP Oil leak because the Genesis Scanner is reading low pressure on the Injectors. I have it down to the pump and I still cannot find a leak. How do I test the pump to see if the pump is out. What all do I need to do while I have it back down this far again. thanks
YOU NEED TO GET A ADAPTER THAT WILL SCREW A AIR FITTING INTO THE ICP PRESSURE SENSOR LOCATION.APPLY 90 PSI OF SHOP AIR TO THE SYSTEM.I HOPE THE GYNISIS SCANNER CAN COMMAND THE IPR DUTY CYCLE TO MAX TO CLOSE OF THE PORT OR AIR WILL LEAK OUT OF THE BYPASS ON THE BACK OF THE PUMP.THE USUAL AREAS FOR THE HP OIL LEAK ARE THE MAIN SEAL ON THE PUMP,STC FITTING AND THE DUMMY PLUGS ON THE HIGH PRESSURE OIL RAILS.GOOD LUCK
I think there is a check valve in the HPOP that can fail. If it fails, the pressure will drop off and it would take a significant amount of cranking to build back up the pressure to the injectors. This happened with a brand new fire engine where I used to work and the truck would not start. Towed it to the IH Dealership and they replaced the check valve.
Just a tid bit of info for you to consider. I would imagine the 6.0 has this check valve too. But consider my disclaimer, that I'm certainly not a diesel mechanic. Hopefully one will chime in here soon.
Something I just found out today. While looking under the hood to replace my oil dip stick (yes they do break), I noticed a sticker above the grill stating that if the truck doesn't start to push the fuel shut off reset shown in the owners manual. Hmmmm.... I found the reset. It is on the passenger side front, on the right kick panel. There is a hole there with a button in it. Try pushing the reset button to see if it possibly has released or might be faulty. Just something else to try.
I tried the air test and I cannot find the leak, I tried the fuel shut off. I tried unplugging the ICP, on the IPR the screen was a little sucked in. Other than that I cannot find anything wrong. The only thing i could hear was a girggle in HPOP. Could that mean there is a bad seal in side the HPOP? Thanks

I think the girggle is the bypass because I could hear it through the turbo return tube.
no, it never moves. If I take the HPOP out what do I need to do to test it? Should I just replace it? (I hate to spend the 700 to replace it if its good) I have the cover off and I stopped. What all should I do while I have the truck apart this far? I have replaced the EGR cooler about 6 mths ago. I know I need an IPR. Thanks
If you take the HPOP you can sort of test the suction and discharge by putting your fingers over the holes and using a impact to spin the pump by the bolt on the gear. It spins counter clockwise. After you spin it a couple of times you should feel suction when you pull your finger off the bottom hole, if not the pump is probably bad. Before you do that however, if the screen is deformed significantly on the ipr screen when compared to a new one then replace it, that can be your whole problem. It doesn't take much deformation on the screen to cause the ipr to fail.

The plug on the H.P. oil feed can occasionally blow out, the H.P. pump seal can blow out, and on the '03-04 trucks the Check-valve ball on the side of the H.P. pump can blow out - causing loss of base oil pressure.
YOU COULD HAVE A LOW OIL PRESSURE PUMP REGULATOR VALVE STUCK IN THE BORE IN THE FRONT COVER BY THE BALANCER.IF YOU ARNT BUILDING BASE OIL PRESSURE THEN THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WONT BE SUPPLKIED WITH OIL AND IT WONT FUNCTION.
at 15,000 mile i was driving along and lost all power, pulled over and it would not start again, towed it to dealer, the next day it started and idled fine for over an hour, tech drove truck it home got 3 miles from the dealer and it left his butt on the side of the road. They replaced the fuel pump and I haven't had a problem with that part since. He said it did not put out any codes when it shut down.
I hope this helps, I dont know how to check the pump since it needs to be under a load to fail.
I have checked the Low pressure side, its working. I have checked the fuel pump it is working. is it possible to rebuild the HPOP is there a kit? thanks
