Hedman headers

Anyone else have clearance problems with Hedman headers, FE and 4x4 (1971) applications? Looks like I will need to notch the frame where the motor mounts attach to the frame on both sides. #1 and #5 tubes each are against the frame... Grrrrr!

I purchased the Hedman Elites (inner chassis\frame) for a 76 4x4, FE, and they are a perfect fit.

I had that problem with Hedman Headers on a Pontiac BB in a 69 Firembird. I just made some square plates to go between the frame motor mounts and the engine block rubber motor mount isolaters. They were about 1/4" thick, but one could go thicker.

All you need is to cut them out about the same size as the motor mount pad and drill a hole in the center for the motor mount bolt/stud. I went a little further and cut a section out from the hole to one edge so I could slide them in wihtout having to raise the engine very much.

I guess I didn't make my explaination very well in my rant. The #1 and #5 tubes each hit the saddle on the frame where the motor mounts attach. Nothing comes close to the mounts themselves. My options are to bend the pipes 1/4"+ and risk a crack later, or just notch the frame saddles. I'm opting for the latter.

Were these the Elite series? Hedman assured me if mine did not fit, they would refund the money.

A small dents or indentations in the header tubes will not effect the headers efficiency. Easier, cheaper and safer than notching the frame.

You must not have gotten the right set for the truck, my hedman headers fit perfect on my 1969 ford highboy 4x4, i was just disappointed with how they were treated and how they looked when they were considered "new"
