I have a 1978 F250 Crew cab 4x4 with a 4" Skyjacker susp. lift, 400 engine with C6 tranny and am interested in installing headers on the truck. Has anyone installed the long tube headers from Hedman on a 1977-79 F250 truck with this engine/tranny setup? Are there any problems with them hitting frame/suspension parts with a suspension lift kit? What was the part number? I want to run the ceramic coated headers - is this a good choice?
6-Modification to stock exhaust required to retain catalytic converter.
41-Fender well exit.
45-Not legal for sale or use in California on pollution controlled motor vehicles.
The sad part is if you ordered ceramic coated you get a production item with ceramic coated sharp edges, port misalignments and mig splatter. Better to have raw headers, check the fit, dress edges and ports then have them ceramic coated. Go the extra mile for a clean flowing exhaust system, it's your hard earned money unless good enough is your thing like Bling Bling wheels. JMO's.

ReAX I have found the numbers for the two types of headers on Hedmans' website, fenderwell exit and longtube. I am interested in fitment of longtube headers on an F250 with a 4" skyjacker suspension lift. Any pieces be in the way of the headers? I just don't like the idea of fenderwell headers - want to keep exhaust pipes within the frame rails for a better look.
Thanks for the info tho.
BeemerNut - i have not ordered headers yet. Have you had any headers from Hedman that have weld splatter, poor fit, or holes don't line up? I would think Hedman would produce a good product - they've been doing this for quite some time? You have any vendors that do a good ceramic coating job? What about the warranty from the header manufacturer if i take it someplace to have it ceramic coated? Could be a possible fingerpointing match should I need warranty work in a few years.
BTW - I hate Bling Bling wheels too. They DO NOT belong on pickups!!!! Usually stupid city people that do this to their trucks.
Back in 74 I installed a set of Hedman's $73 back then, my opinion back then and now they are cheap production units that I wouldn't buy again. They aimed the collectors in odd wild directions and no two sets were the same, aka crap in my book as I had to raise the motor to get them to fit and this was their 3rd set. Always leaking and spitting gaskets, collector lips rusted away to a point I welded the collector extensions to the collectors just to keep the crap together. No I love Hedman flame wars please, JMO's.
I would go with Hooker's or Thorley's.
I have the older Doug Thorley headers, he sold out but they are still manufactured, quality difference? Thorley's come chromed but I had a set special ordered raw, checked fit then rounded all edges and burs then worked over the ports a little to match the heads. All flanges lapped flat then welded in O2 sensor bungs on the extensions. Then I started on the exhaust system including a X cross. From the X cross forward to headers were coated in and out by HPC in Utah, they are in Arizona and two other states.
Long winded, sorry.
