pedal position sensor

Here lately my throttle has been a little weird sometimes you step on the pedal and the truck takes off like a bat out of hell and sometimes it just takes off like normal. is the pedal position sensor going bad or is it something else? Ford wants over $300 for a pedal assembly they don't sell the sensor separate. Is there a place to get just the sensor of do i fork out the money for the whole thing? Its on a 2000 f350 Thanks Justin

Hey Bigbubba87, they sale the sensor at local parts stores under the term accelerator pedal position sensor...i have the same problem with my 2000. the problem is that the sensor and pedal have to be calibrated! i bought the sensor itelf for $70 and installed it it worked fine for about 2 hours and returned to working intermittingly. Ford has had these pedalassemblies for on back order for sometime now. i would recomend a junkyard or look for parting out classified in you area. thats what i did in the meentime til the backorder from ford goes out and they hit the shelfs?! i payed $50 for mine and was able to test drive it before removal. Also some members have cleaned the plug with like a electronic cleaner...dirt could be messing with the contacts. i tried that and still no such luck with mine!I would try that first you could get lucky... if your local dealer has them on the shelves please let me know...the sensor is located on top of pedal assmbly with 3 or 5 wires coming out of the plug. thanks Joe

Try a search for "Dorman 699-201". That should be for a 2000 with seperate IVS and TPS sensors.

This is one hit I got for Summit Racing LINK

To my knowledge Ford only has the whole thing.

Ford sells the whole thing...you can buy the sensor seperatate like the link Robin put up. I'm wondering how you can calibrate the sensor and the pedal. i bought the TPS itself and it worked for 2 hrs and went to working intermitingly...ford hashad pedal assembly on backorder for quite sometime...

I have never heard that the TPS needs to be calibrated. I would also like to know how that is done if necessary. I bet it can be accomplished with AE because AE will read TPS position.

And it only had a 2 hour lifespan?

Joe,

Payson is only 65 miles north of Ft McDowell Casino if you ever need some help. Just PM me if you do. I have some experience with these PSDs.

AE is AutoEnginuity. They make scantools. That is what I use for diagnosing and data logging my truck.

Before I got on I didn't know chit about my truck and after getting on it took awhile for me to even understand what the hell they were talking about half the time. Now I know enough to be dangerous.

Please contact me if you are going to be in Payson, or want to or need to come up here.

I always figured a new TPS would be plug and play. Has anyone changed a TPS and did it need "calibration"?

Edit : I am just talking about the sensor, not the whole pedal.

There is no calibration,it is an R & R.

Dosen't sound like a tps issue to me,"usually" when they go bad, they are not intermittent and will give a "idle" reading.

Thanks 12ozd. That is what I figured. And that is for just the TPS and not the whole pedal assembly, right?
